Are you ready? New Event Announcement - "COOK AND CLICK"

Tried and tasted by Nivedita
Hi All,
Being a person who eats anything edible, I always look into cooking section in any magazine I open to read. Thats how I had collected the pages from the magazine FRIDAY which comes with GULF NEWS on every Friday. And my friend too had collected the pages from many years. She got it binding in a printing press with thick cover. We both used to try those recipes. Before she left for India, she gave me all the books as the books weighed almost  10 kgs!! I was there for longer time and I too tried many recipes. But!!!!

Before I shifted back to India, by mistake that whole box with my few other study books got misplaced somewhere !! I literally cried when I did not get that box. It was a treasure for me. After that I stopped collecting the recipes.
But when I came back to India, I saw my mother's book rack is  full of recipes which she had collected from old Woman's Era and few Kannada Magazines!

Till today I have not tried any recipes from those pages as I am swimming in the ocean of recipes. (I can name it THE BLOGGERS OCEAN)

Last week, when I went to my other friend, she gave me few old cook books from which she has tried most of the dishes. The books are old, but have a great collection of recipes. One of you might be having those books in your personal library.

Now when I was just going through those wonderful recipes, a thought came to me about this event. But I remembered an event from some blogger (I am extremely sorry, I am not getting her blog now) which was same like this. She used to give some recipes and one should prepare it and send it to her with the photo. It was 2 years before when I started my blogging. IF ANY ONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS EVENT OR IF YOU ARE THE ONE WHO HAD THIS EVENT, please let me know.
I want to start this event in a different manner:
Every week I will post 2 recipes , the ingredients and the source magazine (if possible). All you need is to choose one or both(if possible), prepare at home, click and send me only the photos.

IF ALL OF YOU SUPPORT ME WITH THIS EVENT, I AM SURE, IT WILL BE GREAT FUN AND TOGETHER WE CAN LEARN MANY OLD RECIPES.

I WILL WAIT FOR THIS WEEK FOR THAT BLOGGER IF SHE READS THIS AND COMES OUT. I JUST DO NOT WANT TO BE A PLAGIARIST. (I do not fully remember that event and its rules.)
If I come to know about that previous event, then lets see! you are the one to decide!

WAITING FOR YOUR REPLIES.

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT - CELEBRATE SWEETS~HALWA!!!!!

Tried and tasted by Nivedita
Hi All,
"If you fail in something in the Life, that is the time to learn from your mistake!!" I have read these lines in many books. Often  I follow it too. Again I am going to follow it and going to check my ability or capacity in managing the event.
Last one was a flop! I do not know the reason or may be the theme was complicated or more people were not aware about it!! And it was non-cooking event. But I am thankful to many of blogger friends who were so supportive to make me feel good. A chat between me and Srivalli at that moment gave me little relief.
This time I am planning to hold an event on cooking. And the theme is Halwa!! Yesterday, when I saw 5 halwa posts in my blogger friends at a time in 24 hours of span, this idea came into my mind. I was scared of the failure again and just put it in my FB status. And then I got the message from Jagruti જાગૃતિ  of Joy of Cooking. She encouraged me to go ahead with the event announcement. Thanks Jagruti for so much support and encouragement.
So here comes the theme of the event :
Come, Lets
 "CELEBRATE SWEETS~HALWA"
                                                        image link
Halwa is a common desert and is usually prepared at home.  It is the quickest and easiest desert to make. The best part of Halwa is you can make Halwa with anything!! (I remember the last dialog in the movie "CAT IN THE HAT" where the mother asks the kids "with what you made the cookies" and the girl will answer " you can make cookies out of anything mom"!!!)
You can make halwa out of most of the vegetables. You can make halwa with powdered pulses, grains, fruits, dry fruits, nuts and......, I will leave the imagination and creativity with you all!!
Here you can read more about Halwa.
I am inviting all of you to prepare Halwa.
Go through the rules :
  • Post the recipe in your blog from Today till July 25, 2010.
  • Send it to my email id nivedita.mt@gmail.com with "CELEBRATE SWEETS~HALWA"  as a subject.
  • You can send as many entries as you wish.
  • For archived posts,
If the recipe is posted within two months, just update the post and link back to my event.
If the recipe  is posted earlier, please update, repost and link bank it to my event.
  • Placing the logo will be highly appreciated as it will be easy to spread the news about this event.
  • Non bloggers can send their entries to my email.
This time, I expect all of you to participate in this sweet event.  This is a self test trial for me!!
I hope you all will not allow me to fail.
Waiting for more entries.
(Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm - Sir Winston Churchill)
And one more announcement :
If this event goes well, I want to continue the series with other sweets. Thats why I have named the event as "Celebrate sweets ~        "

Forgotten Indian games!! (Edited and re written), Event Announcement!!

Tried and tasted by Nivedita
Hi All,
Hurray!!! I am here with my first event!!
I took a long time to  re write this! My older post(Fogotten Indian games!!!!!!!!) got very supportive responses. But I was lazy to take it in to action.  And I was not confident enough to held an event all by myself. But the support I am getting from you all has given me that courage and confidence to do this! I am really very much excited and feeling like as if my first movie is going to release!!! Now I can empathize what actors go through before their movies releases!!!
My first event is going to be on blog! I hope you all will support me and participate , which is totally away from cooking. So, relax and take some time. This is all about the games, we used to play during our child hood. I want all of you to relive your child hood  by remembering the olden games and playing with your kids.
In the child hood, we used to stay in a chawl. (Many houses together in a big compound, or one big lane having houses built either side of the road.) I had many friends and there was no one to stop us playing the whole day during summer vacations. We used to play many games, which are totally disappeared now a days. Lagori, Halpi, Vattappa, sarbadgi, muttata, hide and seek(stop), kabaddi, gilli dandu, aali guli mani, kuntata, bali churu(broken banlgles), Chakka vacchi, playing house house game with kitchen set and dolls, kalla police(thief and police), dum sharara, goli, writing our own script and playing the dramas.(I do not know the English names for the games, sorry!! These all are Kannada names!) I still do not remember many games.
That included, stealing pickles from the kitchen and then sharing and eating.
Collecting the ingredients for making Chigali(made up of fresh tamarind, jaggery, chilly powder, lime leaves, salt and few more!!). Then making small balls of chigali, sharing and enjoying the spicy, tangy, lemony and salty taste.
Preparing mehandi at home and applying in the evenings.
And not to forget, educational games, like writing names of four things from same alphabet, memory game, Antakshari!!!
Just a thought came in my mind!! Why we can not post all old games one by one, trying to explain it with photo(if possible) !!!
(image from here)
Simple rules to participate in the event,
1. Post any forgotten, old Indian game (If possible with photo). Explain the game and try to share maximum information you have.
2. I will appreciate if you can place the logo in your blog.
