Mixed Lentil Dal

Hi All,
Dal is a food, which can be prepared in more than 1000 ways and each preparation tastes different.  The down one is a simple and healthy dal.


Again, as usual, I have mixed 7 lentils in this.
Here is the recipe,
All mixed lentils - 1 cup all together, Qty of each dal is as per your taste, but Urad dal should be little.
(Toor dal, Yellow moong dal, Chana Dal, Masoor dal, Urad dal, Split black Urad dal, Split green moong dal)
Jaggery - 2 tbsp
Tomato - 1 big chopped
Wash the dal and mix jaggery and tomato in a cooker with dal. Give 3 whistles. Allow it to cool.
For dal masala,
Oil -1 tsp
Ghee - 1 tsp
Jeera or cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Onion - 1 medium, cut into long thin slices
Garlic - 6 to 8 cloves, crushed
Ginger - 1/2", cut in to thin long pieces
Whole red dry chilly - 3 to 4
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander - handful, chopped finely
Heat oil and ghee in a kadai, add jeera. Fry for some time. Add curry leaves and garlic. Fry till the garlic changes its color. Now add onion and ginger and fry till onion is fried. Then goes whole red chilly, coriander powder and turmeric powder. Fry for half minute and add boiled dal. Mix it and allow it to boil for a minute. Now add 1/2 cup water. Close the lid and allow it to boil for 2 minutes on low flame. Open the lid and add fresh coriander. Remove from the heat.
Dal is ready to serve.

Dal E Dinner from Srivalli!

Hi All,
It is so easy to prepare food, when some one is guiding you!! That's why I enjoy very much when ever I follow other blog and cook any dish. And I post it in 'Food Remake' label, as it is very common in Indian film industry to remake the movies from one language to the other. So even my food here is the remake one!!!


I always loved  Srivalli's  recipes. This dal is from one of her recipe. When she posted this, she was not sure about the name of this dish. As per her explanation in the post (Yet another dal), I told her to give the name as "Dal-E-Dinner". Go through her post for details. 
(I tried to take the photo as she has taken!, Pakka remake!! )
Enjoy this quick and tasty dal with hot rice or Chapati!

Palak Dal

Hi All
It is so easy to prepare food, when some one is guiding you!! That's why I enjoy very much when ever I follow other blog and cook any dish. And I post it in 'Food Remake' label, as it is very common in Indian film industry to remake the movies from one language to the other. So even my food here is the remake one!!!

I never prepared so tasty palak dal before!! 
I substituted the  milk and fresh cream for coconut milk. 

Enjoy with hot rotis, Chapatis or Rice!!!

Tomato Dosa

Now a days, as I am at home, and getting chance to watch TV, I am watching some cookery shows. My mother watches all the cookery shows, and writes down the recipes. She tries most of the recipes also. Now I have joined her!!!

Yesterday, we were watching one show in Kannada channel, and she prepared tomato dosa, which was different from other normal dosa(I felt it!!) And in my mind, came the event hosted by Padma. So I am preparing the same for her event.
Here is the recipe:
Raw rice - 2 cup
Urad dal - 1 cup
Tomato - 2 big, chopped
Red dry chilly - 2
Coriander seeds - 2 tbsp
Jeera - 1tsp
Salt to taste
Oil to make dosas

(The guest garnished the dosa with few ingredients. But it is optional and according to your taste and time)
For garnishing,
Onion -1 chopped finely
Carrot - 1 grated
Coriander - chopped
Green chilly - 1 chopped

Soak the rice and urad dal for 4 to 6 hours. Before grinding, wash both and add other ingredients except oil. Keep it over night or 8 hours.
Heat tava, spread the batter to make thin dosa. Spread the garnishing ingredients if you like. Let it roast. Add little oil. Remove it and serve hot.

Burnt Jeera dal

Hi all


A simple dal recipe, it goes well with rice and even chapati. I like it both the ways. Here the jeera must be burnt and the flavour of burnt jeera with flavour of dal is toooooo good to resist!!!
Here is the recipe:
Toor dal or yellow moong dal - 1 cup(Boiled and mashed)
Tomato - 1/2 chopped length wise
Long dry red chillies - 4 to 5
Jeera - 2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Haldi - 1/4 tsp
Oil - 1 tbsp
Ghee - 1 tbsp(you can skip this and add 2 tbsp oil)
Coriander - 2 tbsp to garnish
Heat the kadai, add jeera and let them become black or almost burnt.
Immediately put oil and ghee. After few seconds, and red chillies, haldi, salt and then red chillies.
now add tomato and let it cook for 2 minutes.
Add toor dal or moong dal. Add little water and let it boil for a minute.
Check the salt and adjust according to your taste.
If you like, you can add 1 tsp lemon juice after you off the gas.
Garnish with chopped coriander and serve with hot rice and pickle with papad.
